415: Oral Fluid Instructor (Online)

NOTE: Students must have oral fluid collection devices available to them prior to their scheduled mock session in order to avoid delaying their class and incurring a rescheduling fee.

The online Oral Fluid Instructor course is a 2 day interactive course designed to train individuals to conduct oral fluid collections and train others under the 49 CFR Part 40 (DOT) regulations. This course includes:

  • 49 CFR Part 40 Procedures & Regulations via online self-study module
  • Oral Fluid collection device training
  • Day 1 (Collector Training)
    • 5 online mock tests via webcam instruction
    • Common collection errors and problem-solving techniques
  • Day 2 (Instructor Training)
    • Advanced Collector and Collector Instructor procedures related to DOT Oral Fluid Collections
    • Instructor Resources, training aides, and electronic files will be provided and discussed
    • Instructor exercises and mock presentations of collector training

To participate in online Oral Fluid Collector training, you will need the following materials:

  • A computer with a high-speed internet connection and an external adjustable webcam
  • 8 Federal (DOT) Custody & Control Forms (CCFs)
  • 8 DOT compliant oral fluid split specimen collection devices and kits
  • Another person (subject) to act as a donor (DOT requires that the mock tests be performed on a live subject)

Once the student has successfully completed the online course self-study component, they will attend their scheduled session with an Intoximeters Trainer to perform the 5 error-free mock collections to complete the proficiency component of the training. Limited instruction will be given. For this portion of the class you must have Federal (DOT) Custody & Control Forms (CCFs), DOT compliant oral fluid split specimen collection devices and kits, and a person to act as the subject.  If the student is successfully able to complete their mocks on day 1, they will continue to day 2 for their train the trainer session.
